It's been a season of ended droughts and firsts for Michigan State basketball and head coach Tom Izzo and that continued on Tuesday night as the Spartans officially accomplished something for the first time ever under the Hall of Fame head coach.
That's right, in his 30-year Michigan State career, the Hall of Famer hadn't accomplished this feat. But this year's team is special and did just that -- and made it look rather easy.
For the first time ever under Izzo, Michigan State has not lost a single game in December and January.

It's kind of wild to think about all of the great teams that Izzo has coached and that none of them have ever gone undefeated in both December and January but that's the reality. Plus, going undefeated for two whole months in college basketball is borderline unreal -- especially in the Big Ten.
Obviously the month of December was filled with winnable non-conference games, but the Spartans still did get two Big Ten matchups before Christmas and they have won all seven league games in January.
Has the schedule in the Big Ten so far been favorable? Absolutely, but that's setting up for a gauntlet in the second half of the conference season against the likes of USC, UCLA, Oregon, Maryland, Michigan, Purdue, Illinois (again), and others.
If Izzo can engineer a 9-2, 8-3, or even 7-4 finish to the regular season, there's a good chance that this team will end the four-year Big Ten title drought.
For now, though, they have to focus on what's in front of them. Here's to hoping for a perfect February as well.
