Michigan player takes wild cheap shot at Michigan State during championship celebration

Fairly unnecessary cheap shot, if you ask me.

Michigan celebrated its first national title in nearly 40 years on Saturday with a championship parade and Michigan State was still somehow on the mind.

The Spartans were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament two weeks ago and yet they’re still somehow on the minds of some Michigan fans (all over social media, you’ll see posts about Michigan State for some reason) and apparently some players, too, despite winning the national title.

During Michigan’s championship celebration, the players got to take the mic and share some thoughts with the fans in attendance. One player decided to take a shot at Michigan State.

Will Tschetter took the mic and decided to talk about Michigan‘s national title while sprinkling in a little talk about Michigan State for some reason. He took a Facebook dad-type jab at East Lansing.

I mean, he should probably just call Michigan State “Sharty” at this point. These are the types of things you read in a Facebook comment section or on a Twitter reply from someone’s dad, not a national champion and four-year player at Michigan. Sometimes you just have to take an unnecessary stray because a team has bragging rights for the moment.

I know Michigan fans are already going to use the “Tom Izzo mentioned Michigan during Michigan State’s senior day celebration” rebuttal, but that was only because the Spartans were gearing up to face the Wolverines in the season finale a few days later. He’s not doing that after winning a national title.

When Izzo does win again, I hope he returns the shot back at Michigan.

The 2027 national title is on the calendar

It’s usually pretty unfair to say “national title or bust” for a college basketball team because it’s the toughest sport to win it all, but after going 26 years without one and being considered a premier team in the country and projecting to have a top-five roster in the country with the Final Four being in Detroit, that’s going to be the case for Izzo and MSU.

Unfair or not, the pressure is going to be on Izzo to get to the national title game in Detroit with one of his best rosters, on paper, in the past decade. It’s also not sitting right that his rival won before he won his second. I just know that makes him sick.

Let’s see if he can bring home a national title to “East Landfill” next year.
