Michigan had 3 NBA lottery picks but all Wolverine fans can talk about is Tom Izzo

I’d also be talking crazy if my school was 18-36 against Tom Izzo.

Another year has passed with Michigan State having modest representation at the NBA draft. This year, Tom Izzo only sent Jaxon Kohler and Carson Cooper to the draft with Trey Fort hanging on for a training camp invite, and neither got selected.

Shortly after the draft, however, Kohler signed with the Utah Jazz on an Exhibit 10 contract and Cooper inked a two-way deal with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Izzo had a huge hand in the development of both bigs and he’s one of the main reasons that they even have an NBA opportunity in front of them. He did a fantastic job of developing both and not many coaches would have them knocking on the door of their NBA dreams at this point.

While Michigan State didn’t have any success in this year’s draft, the Michigan Wolverines had three players go in the NBA lottery. The first was Morez Johnson to the Dallas Mavericks followed by Yaxel Lendeborg to the Warriors and Aday Mara to the Thunder. It should have been a time for celebration for Michigan fans who watched their program crash and burn just three years ago.

Instead, Michigan fans took the time that they should have been celebrating and spent it on trolling Izzo.

Michigan fans can’t help themselves when it comes to Tom Izzo

I saw this post surface on Twitter following the first round of the NBA draft on Tuesday as a Michigan fan had the audacity to take a shot at the man who has owned their program since 1995.

In case you don’t realize just how much Michigan fans think about Izzo, all you have to do is read the replies and quotes to this tweet. They’re obsessed with the Hall of Famer.

Not only is this one of the worst five-year stretches of Izzo’s coaching career, but it doesn’t take into account the fact that the legendary head coach doesn’t recruit one-and-gives but rather targets guys who he believes will be solid 3-4 year players at Michigan State.

Plus, Izzo is winning Big Ten titles with just two draft picks in five years? That might be even more proof that he’s the best coach in the conference and one of the greatest of all time.

That number is about to explode over the next few years with guys like Jeremy Fears, Coen Carr, Jasiah Jervis, Jordan Scott, Kaleb Glenn, Carlos Medlock, and Ethan Taylor all possessing NBA potential. I would not be shocked to see Izzo have one of the most fruitful stretches of NBA draft success over the next few years.

When that happens, you won’t see Michigan State fans bashing Michigan instead of celebrating their own program’s success.
