Every offseason, Tom Izzo sits down with his players and talks about goals and where they stand heading into next season. This past offseason, his meetings with AJ Hoggard and Mady Sissoko led to transfer portal entries because the Hall of Fame head coach felt it was good for both parties.
And so far, it's worked out nicely.
While Cal won't be heading to the NCAA Tournament this season as they're just 13-16 on the year, Sissoko has been having a nice season to end his collegiate career. He's averaging a career-best 7.4 points with another career-best 7.5 rebounds in, you guessed it, a career-high 26 minutes per game. His senior day with Cal was on Saturday night, and he did not disappoint, notching career-highs in points (21) and rebounds (15) in an 82-71 win.
To put it bluntly, Sissoko looked like the best player on the floor and some of his finishes at the rim even got me out of my seat and I had no rooting interest.
First career 20-piece for @MadyGSissoko👏

Mady Sissoko set new career highs in both points and rebounds as he finished with 21 points on 9-10 shooting and 15 rebounds@CalMBBall | @CalAthletics | #GoBears pic.twitter.com/ReL2D1czyR
A heck of a way to finish a collegiate career at home and nobody deserves good things to happen to them more than Sissoko. It was cool to watch him dominate Boston College on Saturday.
Sissoko wasn't the only former Spartan to dominate on Saturday and lead his team to a huge win as Hoggard, too, played the role of hero as his Vanderbilt Commodores upset Missouri, aiding their NCAA Tournament hopes with the victory.
Hoggard played the most minutes of any Commodore (36) on Saturday and finished with 21 points, six assists, three rebounds, two steals, and a block in the overtime win over the nation's No. 14 team.
AJ Hoggard is up to five points and two assists.

Could be the day he gets back on track after a few games below double figures. Vanderbilt trails 24-22. pic.twitter.com/ElE4kSn1mf
While he earned his fair share of criticism from Spartan fans throughout his career in East Lansing, it's good to see he landed on his feet in Nashville for one of the biggest surprise teams in the country.
Like I said earlier, these transfers worked out for all parties.
