Friday’s top-10 rivalry game was tough to watch. Michigan walked into the home of Michigan State basketball and walked out with a 12-point win after a slight scare.
The Wolverines were the tougher team for most of the game, but Jeremy Fears didn’t back down. He played his heart out and put up a career-high 31 points with seven assists and five rebounds. He played as tough as anyone on the floor on Friday night, and nearly willed Michigan State to a win.
After the loss, a certain fanbase took to Twitter to talk about how “bad” and “unethical” Fears is, and they were saying some crazy things about arguably the best point guard in the Big Ten.
Takes like the ones saying he’s not good really multiplied as the night went on, and I’ll chalk that up to opposing fans being prisoners of the moment and attributing his occasional foul-baiting to him having “no talent” and being “bad”. He played a smart game, got some favorable calls, and still played at a really high level on both ends of the floor.
Love him or hate him, Fears is an All-American point guard, and he’s playing like one.
Don’t believe me? The numbers don’t lie.
Jeremy Fears absolutely has All-American numbers
On the season, Fears is averaging 14.9 points and 8.8 assists per game, shooting 45 percent from the floor and 90 percent from the free throw line. He’s having a huge year, but his numbers over the past 10 games have been a little more eye-opening.
Over his last 10 games, Fears is averaging 19.8 points and 8.3 assists per game.
Oh, those numbers aren’t good enough? Over the past three games, Fears is putting up 25.7 points and 11 assists per game. He is willing this team to wins right now, but it would be nice if the rest of the Spartans perked up offensively.
We can’t see many more games like the last two where Fears has had to do just about everything, because those Big Ten title hopes will melt away in that case.
Fears needs help, but he’s absolutely an All-American-caliber player.
