When Jeremy Fears Jr. came to Michigan State, he had some bounce to his game and his athleticism was sneaky for his size. Unfortunately, he suffered a scary injury from a gunshot wound during a visit home over the holiday break and was forced to miss the rest of his freshman season.
Missing the rest of the year was probably best-case scenario given the situation and the fact that Fears essentially had to learn how to walk again.
That obviously set Fears back athletically and he’s been chasing normalcy and even progression in that aspect of his game for years.
Well, it might officially be back, and then some.
Fears posted a video of him dunking on Friday afternoon which may not seem all that crazy since he’s done that in live games before, but this difficulty of dunk is something we’ve never seen from him. He threw down a 360 windmill with ease with the caption “tell the streets I’m backkkk”.

For all the fans and scouts that were concerned that he may not have the athleticism that would translate to the NBA, this was a wake-up call. He made it look pretty routine with just a few dribble, a gather, and then a 360-windmill that he threw down with room to spare. Fears really got up on that dunk with his face basically touching the net.
There’s apparently going to be a new element to his game this season — at least we should all hope he brings this to the regular season.
Tom Izzo will want Fears to run the offense like he did last year and work on his jumper, but if he can drive the lane and throw down like this, what NBA team is going to turn him away next year?
The best point guard in college basketball really just added another element to his game.
Michigan State is spoiled.

Now that Fears has shown that he has his hops back, the team is looking like one of the most athletic in Izzo’s career.
Coen Carr, Kaleb Glenn, Anton Bonke, Ethan Taylor, and Cam Ward are all already lob threats, but now we could even see Fears on the receiving end of one or two of them this year if Carlos Medlock finds him streaking toward the basket on a breakaway.
What would really get the crowd going would be Carr throwing a lob to Fears on a breakaway. Just imagine that Uno reverse card being played. Everyone expects Fears to lob it to Carr and we have seen dozens of those clips, but what about Carr throwing it up to Fears for an insane dunk? That would blow the lid off the Breslin Center.
Michigan State has some elite athletes on its roster and Fears is proving to be one of them.
