Michigan State fans have been spoiled one the years with countless alternate jerseys. There have been classics like the 2000 national title edition or the script “State” jerseys, but Jeremy Fears Jr. is lobbying for one of the more controversial alternates in Michigan State history.
The Spartans have had some jerseys over the years which split the fanbase right down the middle.
What comes to mind is the bronze alternate with the script “State” on the front, any black jersey, and the lime greens that were a good luck charm back in 2015-16 after a three-game losing streak. The Spartans were able to beat Maryland and everyone remembers that Matt Costello and Tom Izzo moment where he picked the Hall of Fame head coach up and spun him around.
Well, Fears wants those jerseys back.
The soon-to-be junior point guard shared an edit of him and Coen Carr wearing the lime green jerseys with the captain “one can only wish”.

I won’t lie, I wouldn’t mind bringing these back. The vibes were immaculate when Michigan State wore these with Costello, Bryn Forbes, and Denzel Valentine dominating Maryland en route to a huge win to end a losing streak. I’m not saying wait until a losing streak, but these are good luck jerseys.
And if Fears wants it, you give it to him. He’s one of the best players in America and if you’re Izzo, you listen to those demands even if you didn’t like the lime greens.
I say bring ‘em back.
Michigan State fans have strong opinions about the lime greens
Michigan State fans either love the lime greens or absolutely hate them with every fiber of their being. There’s quite literally no in between.
I remember when these first came out and everyone was confused why the lime green was even used. It felt like a mistake considering it doesn’t even somewhat resemble any green that Michigan State had ever worn. Fans grew to like them when the Spartans took down Maryland in them and had one of the best regular seasons in the Tom Izzo era.
I do think that season is kind of put out of Michigan State fans’ memories because of what happened during that 2016 NCAA Tournament against Middle Tennessee, so I don’t blame anyone for not wanting to open old wounds and think about the 2015-16 season.
Fears wants them which means that players probably like them — much like the football highlighter green pants. You have to listen to the players in this scenario.
Don’t be shocked if we see them make a comeback this year.
