Finally. The wait is finally over and Michigan State fans have gotten the good news that they’ve been desperately waiting weeks for: Jeremy Fears Jr. is back.

About 12 hours after it was reported that Tom Izzo believed he would be getting all of his guards back, Fears made it official that he would be returning. The news doesn’t come as a major shock because it’s what most of us expected when he entered, but boy did he make Spartan fans sweat this one out. I can safely say that no one will be taking him for granted from this point forward.
With the return of Fears, Michigan State is now a top-five team in college basketball and it’ll have one of the most loaded backcourts with him, Carlos Medlock Jr., Kur Teng, Jordan Scott, and Jasiah Jervis accounting for the minutes. There really is no serious drop-off at shooting guard no matter who’s in and Fears is going to help Medlock’s development in a huge way.
This news couldn’t come at a better time because Spartan fans were about to melt down after an insane day that began with the news of MSU President Kevin Guskiewicz leaving for a pay cut at Clemson. He cited Board of Trustees issues as his reason for leaving.
Fears is now leading the best Michigan State roster that we’ve seen in probably seven years and that just means that Izzo’s chase for No. 2 is alive and well.
Jeremy Fears’ decision was worth the wait
To be honest, if I’m an All-American college basketball player entering my name into the NBA draft and everyone just assumes it’s just for feedback and I’m returning no matter what, I’d absolutely do the same thing Fears did by waiting to announce his decision.
I don’t blame him one bit for wanting to make people sweat who just assumed he was “too small” or that he “can’t shoot” and I can say: mission accomplished.
The decision was worth the wait because it not only made fans cherish him a little more, but now the vibes around the program are at an all-time high entering the summer. Fears is going to re-join the team this summer and the real work begins.
Fears famously told Izzo during a timeout, “I want to win worse than you.”
We’re about to see how serious he is about that. Massive junior year loading.
