Jeremy Fears has been playing some incredible basketball lately.

The All-American candidate has been lighting up defenses and shutting down offenses for the past couple of weeks at a legitimate national player of the year rate.

In fact, there are several respected college hoops experts who have Fears in their top 10 of the national player of the year race. He’s playing like the best point guard in the country, and I’d be shocked if he wasn’t on one of the All-American teams at the end of the year.

Just how good has he been lately? Well, he was just named Big Ten Player of the Week for a second straight time, a feat that hasn’t been accomplished by a Spartan in nearly a decade.

The last Spartan to record back-to-back Big Ten Player of the Week honors was Nick Ward back during that incredible 2017-18 regular season. That’s some pretty good company for Fears to be in as Ward was loved in East Lansing and he’s remembered as one of the best pure bigs that Izzo coached — his footwork was insane.

Fears has joined Ward in Spartan history with one of the best three-game stretches from a point guard in the Tom Izzo era.

Jeremy Fears has been unbelievable lately

Fears has been playing great all season, but especially over the past three games.

On the season, Fears is averaging 14.9 points and 8.8 assists per game. His assist numbers are good for second-best in college basketball behind only Purdue’s Braden Smith. He’s been one of the best distributors in the nation, and his scoring has seen quite the uptick lately.

Here are his scoring numbers over the past month or so:

Past 3 games: 25.7 PPG
Past 6 games: 22.2
Past 10 games: 19.8

This recent hot streak offensively hasn’t been just a flash in the pan or an extreme outlier, he’s pretty much been taking over games since the calendar turned to 2026. He got things started against Cornell on Dec. 29 with a 21 and 11 game, and he just stayed hot from there.

If Fears keeps this momentum going, he’s going to be the Spartans’ first Big Ten Player of the Year since Cassius Winston back in 2019.
