For the second time in as many weeks to start the NFL season, a former Michigan State football star has gone down with a serious injury. After Ben VanSumeren was carted off with a knee injury in the first game of the 2025 season last week, Jayden Reed suffered a broken collarbone on Thursday.

After catching a deep ball from Jordan Love in the first half of Thursday night's Packers vs. Commanders game, Reed looked to have scored a touchdown.

Reed was tackled out of the end zone, and he landed on his collarbone and immediately grabbed his shoulder in pain. It was pretty obvious what the injury was when you looked at how he went down.

While it was a great throw and catch from Love to Reed, the play didn't even count because of a holding penalty before the pass was even thrown. The touchdown would have been the first of the game and the second of the season for Reed who had three catches for 45 yards and a score in a Week 1 win over the Lions.

Reed has been one of the best Courtney Hawkins products in the NFL, along with Jalen Nailor (Vikings) and Keon Coleman (Bills) -- yes, I'm counting Coleman because he credits MSU and Hawkins for teaching him what he knows about playing receiver.

Two Spartans are now out with injuries, and it sounds like Reed will be back at some point this season as his recovery time is 6-8 weeks. VanSumeren, however, is out for the year.
