Jaxon Kohler's Michigan State basketball career is officially over.
Tom Izzo told Jon Rothstein on Tuesday that his roster was set for the upcoming season and he wouldn't be exploring any fifth-year players even after the new ruling from a Colorado judge. He shut the door on any notion that he would be pursuing Kohler or Tre Holloman or any other fifth-year hopeful much to the dismay of many Spartan fans.
We could probably count Jaxon’s dad, Jeff Kohler, in that group of disappointed Spartans. Although Jeff is sad about the news that Izzo wouldn’t be pushing for a fifth year from his son, he made sure to share his heartfelt thoughts on Twitter.
The elder Kohler said that he’s hopeful that whatever team Jaxon ends up playing for makes the title game and faces Michigan State for all the marbles.

Jaxon’s dad has been a huge part of the Michigan State fanbase over the past few years and he really became a fan favorite over the past two seasons. He’s been great with fans and he’s as candid as they come on social media so saying goodbye to Jeff is almost as difficult as it is to say it to Jaxon.
The package deal will now head to one of the more than a dozen programs that have reached out since this fifth-year ruling was made last week.
I don’t know about you, but I’m just hoping he doesn’t pick Kansas or Kentucky. Just wouldn’t feel right to see him in either of those uniforms.
Jaxon Kohler is going to make some team very happy
While I’m still not 100 percent sure that this court ruling is going to hold up because we know the NCAA will work to shut it down, there’s a decent chance that Kohler is playing college basketball next season in a different uniform.
My early money is on BYU although Alabama has been making a push, too. Kansas, Kentucky, and Louisville have also been mentioned, but it just makes the most sense that he would finish his college career back at home with BYU so his dad doesn’t have to take so many cross-country trips just to see him play.
BYU was my first thought when it was reported that Kohler was named on a California injunction which was lobbying for a fifth year of eligibility. I still think that’s the favorite just based on gut feeling.
Whichever team he does choose is about to get a monster who is constantly improving. He’s not a super athlete nor does he play the best defense in the world, but he got a lot better on that end of the floor and what he lacks in athleticism, he makes up for with a high basketball IQ. Kohler just seems to be constantly doing the right things and he’s one of the best rebounders in the country.
Oh, and he’s one of the most improved 3-point shooters in college basketball, too.
Whoever lands Kohler is getting a gem.
