We are zeroing in on NBA Draft day and Michigan State basketball fans are excited to see where freshman phenom Jase Richardson ends up.

There's talk that he could be selected somewhere in the 15-20 range and that's probably the odds-on favorite position right now, but a lot could change over the next three days.

But if we're going by who received invites to the NBA Draft green room, Richardson could see a bit of a fall in the first round. The Spartan star was one of just two top 25 prospects in the 2025 NBA Draft to not receive an invite to the green room on draft night.

How does this happen? Honestly, it's a great question, especially since his father, Jason Richardson, played for well over a decade in the league and was one of the brightest stars in the NBA. You would think the NBA would love a storyline like that in the green room with a former league star's son potentially getting selected in the first round or even the lottery.

Richardson had a fantastic freshman season with Michigan State and he's become the first one-and-done for Tom Izzo since Max Christie. Before him, it was Jaren Jackson Jr.

Speaking of Jackson Jr., there's a very real possibility that Richardson and the former Spartan big man could team up in Memphis next season considering the Grizzlies have the No. 16 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and just traded Desmond Bane so they could be looking for a guard who can score and complement Ja Morant. Size might be an issue, however.

Unfortunately, Spartan fans watching the draft won't be able to see Richardson walk up to the stage, shake Adam Silver's hand, and don the hat of his new team.

Make it make sense.
