With basketball season returning, Michigan State fans are going to be paying attention to both the NBA and college hoops. The Spartans have some guys in the NBA worth keeping an eye on, namely rookie guard Jase Richardson.
The rookie guard, who was Tom Izzo’s latest one-and-done player, was selected No. 25 overall by the Orlando Magic in this past summer’s NBA Draft. Since being drafted, Richardson has made a name for himself in both the Summer League and preseason action.
During the Summer League, he was fun to watch and basically played how he did at Michigan State, not shying away from the higher level of play.
So far in the preseason, Richardson has been playing at a high level, forcing some “Rookie of the Year” talks. While it’s early, if he keeps playing like he has so far in the preseason, it’s not completely out of the question.
One of his best plays so far took place on Thursday night as Richardson’s Magic faced Hunter Dickinson and the New Orleans Pelicans.
After missing a floater, Richardson battled for the rebound which became a loose ball. He dove on the floor, showing more hustle than anyone out there, and came up with the ball. The Spartan rookie then saw a teammate streaking toward the basket unguarded, and he found him while simultaneously embarrassing Dickinson with a between-the-legs pass from the ground.
This should be a Sportscenter top 10 play.

Not only did Richardson get one of his six assists on this play, but he showed up the ex-Michigan big man who stood there looking confused during the entire sequence.
Job well done, Jase.
