When it rains for Michigan State basketball, it becomes a torrential downpour.

Over the years, the Spartans have had some horrid injury luck and you could look at almost any team in the past two decades and point to one that seriously affected the season.

More recently, guys like Jaxon Kohler and Jaden Akins suffered foot injuries and then even a week ago, LSJ's Graham Couch revealed that Jesse McCulloch had a stress fracture, too.

Well, the worst injury news in recent memory hit the Spartans on Wednesday as Joe Tipton reported that FAU wing transfer Kaleb Glenn would miss the entire season with a torn patellar tendon.

The report was confirmed by Justin Thind of 247Sports who said that the injury took place during a shooting drill and was non-contact. He is expected to redshirt this season and return in 2026-27 as one of the team's top offensive weapons and a much-needed veteran presence.

Obviously this news is crushing.

Michigan State won the Big Ten title by three whole games this past season as it was Tom Izzo's best since COVID-19 and it felt like the program was back. Unfortunately, offseason attrition from unexpected guys like Jase Richardson (unexpected when the year started), Tre Holloman, and Xavier Booker all left. On top of that, vets like Jaden Akins, Frankie Fidler, and Szymon Zapala also moved on.

Izzo had to utilize the portal heavily and he did so, landing Glenn, Trey Fort, Divine Ugochukwu, and Denham Wojcik. The roster looks much different, but there was still quality depth.

This changes things.

Guys like Coen Carr, Jordan Scott, Cam Ward, and Kur Teng are going to have to step up in a big way in order to minimize this loss. Also, the Spartans will need other non-wing players to continue to develop like Jeremy Fears Jr., Jaxon Kohler, and Carson Cooper.

There's now a lot riding on the development of the young, inexperienced guys.

Tough blow for Michigan State's repeat chances in the Big Ten.
