Tuesday is a big day for Pat Fitzgerald. Not only is it his 51st birthday, but he’s also going to be introduced as Michigan State’s next head coach.
The 51-year-old former Northwestern head coach and College Football Hall of Fame linebacker accepted the job to lead Michigan State into the future after J Batt made the tough decision to fire Jonathan Smith after two disappointing seasons in East Lansing.
Fitzgerald feels like the perfect fit for a storied program like Michigan State which has built its reputation on toughness and hard work. He’s known for both of those qualities, leading Northwestern to some of its most successful seasons in program history. He was also a thorn in Michigan State’s side when he was in Evanston, giving Mark Dantonio some intense battles.
As long as he hires the right guys as offensive and defensive coordinators and considers retaining Courtney Hawkins or Joe Rossi, I think he’s going to find a ton of success in East Lansing.
It’s time to jump on the bandwagon or move out of the way.
But first, the intro presser. Here’s how to watch Tuesday’s introductory press conference.
Date: Tuesday, Dec. 2
Time: 3 p.m. ET
Location: East Lansing, Mich.
TV: BTN
Live stream: Detroit Free Press or BTN Live
That’s right, the Detroit Free Press will be live in person for the introductory press conference but you can also watch on the Big Ten Network, but if you won’t be near a TV and will need to stream it, BTN Live is also an option.
It’ll be must-see TV for all Spartan fans as Fitzgerald is going to provide plenty of hope for the future. While there are still some skeptics out there regarding this hire, I think hearing Fitzgerald speak at his introductory press conference will be a breath of fresh air. I also wouldn’t be shocked to see him introduced at the Michigan State basketball game against Iowa on Tuesday night.
It’s an exciting time for Michigan State, and it sounds like Batt made the right hire here. Like it or not, Fitzgerald is going to turn some doubters into believer
