If you saw the "#FreeG" tag on Twitter throughout the season from Michigan State basketball players and parents of players, you probably wondered what that was all about.

Well, it was a rally cry to get redshirt freshman Gehrig Normand some playing time.

The second-year guard from North Richland Hill, Texas, spent most of the season riding the bench as the team's 12th man behind freshmen like Jase Richardson and Kur Teng who both passed him up in the rotation this season. That had to be discouraging because he had put in the work after redshirting a year ago, and it just didn't equate to time in the rotation.

The former four-star's role was relegated to bench celebrations and being the hype man on the end of the bench. But that's not why he came to Michigan State.

The former top-100 recruit was expecting to become the next sharpshooter in East Lansing and that just never panned out so he hit the portal on Tuesday along with fellow 2023 class member Xavier Booker and also Tre Holloman.

Since hitting the portal, Normand has received plenty of interest, revealing about a dozen teams that have already reached out to the sharpshooting guard.

Ole Miss, TCU, West Virginia, and LSU should be the main focus in this group because, well, he's too good to be settling for a Duquesne or a Long Beach State. He never really got to showcase his talents in East Lansing, but that doesn't mean it's missing from his arsenal.

I wouldn't be shocked if Normand wanted to head back home to Texas to finish his college career and if we're going just based on this list, that would be either TCU or UT Arlington.

I would love to see how he would flourish under Chris Beard at Ole Miss, though.

Wherever he goes, his next team will get an elite hype man and teammate along with someone who has plenty of athleticism and the sharpshooting touch to boot.
