Nick Marsh suited up for his new Big Ten team on Saturday afternoon and it was honestly a little weird seeing him wearing anything other than green and white.
The former Michigan State receiver decided to transfer to Indiana this offseason after Jonathan Smith was fired and he decided to join the reigning national champs. Well, he actually committed to the Hoosiers before they won the title but he was along for the ride and he was arguably the best receiver in the transfer portal, making the rich even richer.
Marsh’s first game with Indiana didn’t go exactly as planned seeing as he had just two catches for 17 yards and a touchdown. But that touchdown catch was arguably the catch of the year.
The first career Hoosier touchdown for Marsh is going to be one that’s remembered for a while.

Josh Hoover threw a back-shoulder pass to Marsh who was being draped by a defender and he contorted his body enough to give himself a chance to grab the ball with one hand. He clearly has some insane hand strength seeing as he caught it and held on with one hand through the fall.
What an absolutely insane highlight for the first catch of Marsh’s Indiana career. Hoosier fans immediately realized that they had a special talent at receiver.
Michigan State fans, on the other hand, are still a little salty about Marsh’s departure, but you can’t blame the kid for leaving seeing as the offense did him very few favors over the past two seasons.
It still would have been nice to see him give Pat Fitzgerald a legit shot.

We did learn a few things from the season-opening weekend. We learned that Alessio Milivojevic is a very solid quarterback, the defense was good outside of a couple of chunk plays for touchdowns, and the receiver room is going to be just fine with Chrishon McCray and Rod Bullard leading the way.
Having Marsh to go along with Bullard and McCray would have given Michigan State one of the most explosive receiver rooms in the Big Ten, but there are young guys like Bryson Williams, Samson Gash, and Braylon Collier who will eventually step up and assume bigger roles to take pressure off the top two pass-catchers on the team.
Bullard was especially impressive in the opener with a couple of massive catches, including the go-head touchdown on fourth down as well as the two-point conversion where he high-pointed the ball over a defender and reeled it in for a critical couple of points in the fourth quarter.
Courtney Hawkins has to love what he has to work with at receiver, but losing Marsh is still in the back of his mind.
