Three years ago, Tate Hallock was fighting for a spot on Michigan State football's depth chart in Mel Tucker's third season. He had been with the program for a few years, but never really got his chance to play, and ultimately decided to transfer down the road to Western Michigan.
Hallock had five total tackles over two seasons of action with Michigan State, but he knew he'd have more of an opportunity to play with the Broncos, and he did.
The brother of Michigan State women's basketball star Theryn Hallock was the star of the game for Western Michigan, leading the team in tackles with nine, and he scored the only points of the game for the Broncos on a pick-six off of Alessio Milivojevic late in the fourth quarter.
When the video is posted on social media, I'll be able to share it, but it was a perfect read on a Milivojevic pass to Alante Brown, he stepped up, reached high for the pass, and basically walked it into the end zone for Western Michigan's only score of the game.
Western Michigan would recover the ensuing onside kick, but it ultimately led to zero points as the Spartan defense stepped up yet again. They didn't give up a single point.
While Hallock decided to leave the program, he was an underdog who just wanted more playing time elsewhere, and he went to Western Michigan where he's been a star on that defense for the past two seasons.
Unfortunately for Milivojevic, he has thrown two career passes and has two picks.
Let's call this a learning experience.
