Former Michigan State players are making their last pitches to their current NFL preseason teams as they try to prove that they should make the 53-man roster at the end of camp.

Unfortunately, a few Spartans have already gotten some bad news.

We've seen Kenny Willekes cut by the Steelers right after they signed him from the UFL, Ameer Speed was let go by the Chicago Bears, and Montorie Foster Jr. was cut after suffering an injury with the Seattle Seahawks.

We can now add another Spartan to the list of cuts this week as former Mark Dantonio era tight end Matt Sokol didn't quite make the last round of cuts with the Buffalo Bills.

Buffalo is pretty well-stocked at tight end, so this isn't a huge surprise. Sokol hasn't accrued any NFL stats to this point in his career, but he had been good enough to be bouncing around each preseason and making a number of practice squads with the Chargers, Jaguars, Lions, Patriots, Steelers, and now the Bills. He has been making a career on offseason or practice squads since 2019.

When he was at Michigan State, he was known as a decent backup tight end who provided solid depth in the room. He got to learn behind Josiah Price before he graduated and finished his MSU career with 31 receptions for 348 yards and two touchdowns.

Now, Sokol will be attempting to make a practice squad before the season starts, and I'd be shocked if he wasn't looked at by the Bills there.

Or he could make his way back to the Lions, Jaguars, or Chargers where he's had two stints each.

He'll land on his feet like he always does.
