Michigan State football saw major changes last offseason, going from the Mel Tucker era to Jonathan Smith and one of those was the complete revamp of the quarterback room.
When Smith was hired, all of the quarterbacks from Noah Kim to Katin Houser to Sam Leavitt left for other opportunities and they're all still going to be playing college ball elsewhere in 2025.
Houser had some success at East Carolina and he's already announced his return to that program next year where he will be the starter again. He took over mid-season and had 1,859 yards, 18 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He completed about 61 percent of his passes and averaged 8.6 yards per attempt which were both career-bests.
Kim struggled to see the field at Coastal Carolina and he's back in the transfer portal.
Leavitt had the most success of any former Michigan State quarterback, including Payton Thorne, this season, leading Arizona State to a Big 12 title and playoff berth while passing for 2,663 yards and 24 touchdowns with only five picks. He had a breakout redshirt freshman season with the Sun Devils and he's already garnering a ton of respect ahead of the 2025 season.
While Michigan State has its own QB1 and fans should be excited about Aidan Chiles in 2025 and beyond, fans might be a little salty seeing a former Spartan quarterback on the way-too-early Heisman Trophy odds for next season.
That's right, Leavitt comes in with the 12th-best odds, according to BetOnline, to win the Heisman Trophy in 2025. He's one spot ahead of Ohio State superstar receiver Jeremiah Smith and also listed are guys like Drew Allar (fifth-best odds), Dylan Raiola (No. 19), and Bryce Underwood (No. 22).
Let's hope Chiles cracks this list at some point next year.
