The first weekend of college football has come with no shortage of intrigue. Michigan State football picked up a big win over Western Michigan, and some former Spartans also starred in Week 1.
Guys like Sam Leavitt, Katin Houser, and Germie Bernard all had big weeks with their new teams, but two of those were in losing efforts. Leavitt was the only winner of the three, beating Northern Arizona late on Saturday night. Houser and Bernard had big games, but they didn't lead their teams to wins.
Houser passed for 366 yards and a touchdown in a losing effort against NC State and Bernard was the star of the show in Alabama's embarrassing loss to Florida State on Saturday evening.
Some fans are even calling Bernard Alabama's best wide receiver, which is a hot take considering Ryan Williams is considered one of the best players in America and was even on the cover of College Football 26.

Germie Bernard has been WR1 since UGA last year.
Bernard did enough to warrant this overreaction against Florida State, catching eight passes for a game-high 146 yards. He was arguably the best receiver on the field on Saturday evening.
It's been a rough start to the season for Alabama who lost by two touchdowns as a two-touchdown favorite, and fans are already calling for Kalen DeBoer's head. His offensive line coach, former Spartan assistant Chris Kapilovic, has also received a ton of scrutiny stemming from the loss.
Former Spartans have made their mark on Alabama this season already -- one in a positive way as Alabama's best offensive weapons so far, and one in a negative way as a coach on the hot seat.
