It's NFL Combine week and if you're surprised by that, it's because Michigan State football didn't send anyone to the event other than placekicker Jonathan Kim.
The Spartans haven't exactly had the best stretch over the past few seasons but Jonathan Smith is hoping to change that but it all starts with landing some elite talent on the recruiting trail and via the transfer portal. Actually, that's where Kim came from.
Speaking of transfer portal, a former Spartan who entered the portal and wound up at Oregon was at the NFL Combine and he absolutely crushed it, especially with his 40-yard dash.
Derrick Harmon, a 313-pound defensive lineman, ran one of the most impressive 40s of the day, breaking five seconds and hitting 4.95 on his second run and 4.97 on his first. One sub-five second 40 is impressive for a 313-pound lineman but two is actually kind of insane.

Harmon left Michigan State before the 2024 season and it was controversial at the time because he was already making a lot of NIL money and was one of the highest-paid players in the Big Ten. But like Keon Coleman, he decided to look out for his football future and went to a national title contender where Oregon was ranked No. 1 for a good chunk of the season.
It's been tough to see Harmon don another uniform, but it's good to see the local kid dominate at the combine and work his way up the draft boards.
Yet another "one that got away" player for Michigan State football. Hopefully that ends this season with some legit NFL draft prospects and a successful season.
