Folks, we're entering the longest stretch of the offseason of both Michigan State basketball and football as spring ball is officially in the books and the NCAA Tournament is in the rearview mirror.
That means that we have a little over four months to wait until the return of one of the top two sports in East Lansing. It's a tough time for a lot of us, but it's also a good time to get to know some newcomers who project to bring a lot to each team.
For the hoops team, there will be a handful of newcomers like Trey Fort, Kaleb Glenn, Jordan Scott, and Cam Ward. The latter two are part of the 2025 recruiting class but they both project to have a solid role on next year's team. I'm excited about both, but the need for some quality bigs really has me buying stock in Ward.
In order to get to know him better, 247Sports' Justin Thind had him on his Spartan Spotlight podcast for an interview on Monday and he spoke about Tom Izzo, his player comps, and why he chose MSU.
His reason for picking Michigan State? Izzo gets guys to the NBA.
You can watch the entire Ward interview with Thind below.
Ward said that the coaching staff sat down with Ward and compared each part of his game to a former Spartan and how they got those guys to improve in those areas and get to the league. He said that set him apart from the rest of the programs recruiting him.
The best part of the interview was that Ward said Izzo has cussed him out a few times and he is starting to get used to it but he sees what kind of coach he is and that he cares.
He also said that he hopes he's not the reason Izzo breaks any clipboards next year.
It is nice to hear that top recruits notice that Izzo and Michigan State are putting guys in the NBA and getting Jase Richardson drafted this year is only going to help that recruiting pitch. Contrary to what rival fans say, the Spartans put guys in the league. And recruits are noticing.
