Michigan State fans know just how good they have it in East Lansing. While the sports teams may let us down every now and then, the city of East Lansing just has a special feel to it.
Whether it's a Saturday in the fall with a home game at Spartan Stadium approaching, or a huge primetime hoops game in the middle of the winter, East Lansing is always buzzing.
It has to be considered one of the best campuses and college towns in America.
And a recent study agreed, ranking East Lansing the No. 1 college town in the Midwest and the sixth-best in the entire country for 2025.
#1 college town in the Midwest. #6 in the nation. @CityofEL has been recognized for its incredible mix of affordability, culture and opportunity. pic.twitter.com/e9MiVO86e0

Michigan State got its ranking from RentCafe which ranked the top college campuses in the country based on a combination of "affordability, cultural opportunities and a young, diverse population" for students who are seeking a "balanced lifestyle and good professional opportunities".
While the top college towns ranked by RentCafe took into account the affordability, cultural opportunities, and young, diverse population, if you add in athletics, it has to be even closer to the top than No. 6 in the country. Michigan State has one of the most passionate and enthusiastic fanbases in the country as well as two storied programs (football and basketball) leading the way.
There may not be a better place in the country than East Lansing on a Saturday afternoon in the fall with a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff approaching.
It's hard to argue against East Lansing being the best college town in the Midwest. Although there are other solid options like Ann Arbor, Bloomington, Evanston, Madison, and Columbus, but you just can't beat the combination of affordability, culture, and the diverse population that East Lansing has.
