Tom Izzo has been known to play his transfer portal cards close to his chest, and this offseason is no different. Michigan State is actively working in the portal, but there has been really no way of telling who the Spartans’ top targets currently are.
But rumors have been swirling.
There have been rumors about Michigan State gauging interest in Aiden Sherrell from Alabama, and vice versa. The two sides would probably like to work together and the fit makes a ton of sense. Michigan State needs a starting caliber center to be that final piece in the national title puzzle and Sherrell is looking for a home where he can pursue a title and start while playing big minutes.
Sherrell averaged 11.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game this past season for the Tide and he help with floor spacing as a 3-point shooting big.
The fit is perfect.
A few recent developments may be showing that the dominoes are falling into place for the Spartans to land the Alabama big man who was once an Izzo recruiting target in the 2024 class.
The pieces are moving in the right direction for Michigan State
What could possibly be happening that could signify dominoes falling into place? A couple of Michigan State’s rumored transfer center targets have committed elsewhere.
The Spartans were rumored to be interested in North Dakota State’s Treyson Anderson as well as Tomislav Buljan from New Mexico, but both have since committed to other schools. How is that good? It could mean that Michigan State is prioritizing Sherrell and SMU’s Samet Yigitoglu.
Considering the rumored No. 1 target is Sherrell and there’s been plenty of talk about mutual interest and potential visits being planned, it would be kind of surprising to see Izzo tell everyone else “no thanks” if he didn’t feel very good about Sherrell or at the very least Yigitoglu. The Spartans need to add at least one of them if they’re going to have a shot at a national title next year.
I’m not going to predict anything, but it does feel like a good sign with Sherrell. The pieces are falling into place. It’s domino season.
