Divine Ugochukwu proves he learned absolutely nothing from Tre Holloman’s mistake

Tre Holloman’s decision to leave Michigan State last offseason and transfer to NC State to play for Will Wade was one of the most head-scratching moves in recent Spartan history.

Holloman decided to leave a Hall of Fame head coach and a program that was going to contend for Big Ten and national titles for a used car salesman who was just using NC State as a pitstop on the way back to the program that fired him for recruiting violations.

Wade went back to LSU, but the damage of broken promises was already done. Holloman’s role wasn’t what he expected and Tom Izzo said that he had a former player reach out and tell him that he made a mistake by transferring and many believed that it was Tre.

It makes sense. Holloman hit the portal again after Wade left NC State abruptly even though he technically has no eligibility left, but he clearly felt the need to pursue another season of college basketball because his final year was ruined. He didn’t have the senior season that he expected and Wade was big reason for that.

Well, Divine Ugochukwu saw what Holloman did and apparently wanted to replicate it.

On Thursday, Ugochukwu’s next transfer destination was made public. And it was probably even more head-scratching than Holloman’s decision.

Ugochukwu saw what Wade did with Holloman’s career and he apparently ordered the same exact thing. The letdown that Wade is going to provide Ugochukwu will be felt all the way in East Lansing.

Fortunately, Michigan State was prepared this time and it has 5-6 guys ready to take Ugochukwu’s minutes. Last year, Izzo had to scramble to find a transfer guard who was OK with being the backup to Jeremy Fears Jr. That’s not the case this time around.

Ugochukwu is much more negatively affected by this move than Michigan State.

Will Wade claims another former Spartan‘s career

Another former Spartan’s career is in danger of being ruined by Wade, but Ugochukwu will likely have a chance to improve his role at LSU more than he did at Michigan State just based on available minutes.

That doesn’t mean that he made the right choice, though.

Ugochukwu made a business decision, taking the money to play for Wade and LSU not even considering the fact that he’s a known snake of a coach who breaks promises.

Even Holloman has to be shaking his head at this move because he provided Ugochukwu the exact transfer blueprint of what not to do in the portal. Instead, Divine decided to follow the money and the minutes which has likely been promised, but things will change over the next few months.

Like Fears alluded to when Ugochukwu hit the portal, you need to have good people in your corner or else you’re just going to make bad decisions.
