After spending most of his post-Michigan State football playing days with the Spartans' athletic department, Darien Harris is officially moving on.
Harris spent time in the athletic department and with the football team during the Mel Tucker era and in Jonathan Smith's first season but he has decided to take a job in the NFL that will look pretty good on the resume moving forward.
According to Patricia Traina of Giants Wire, Harris has accepted a front office role with the New York Giants, leaving Michigan State after a good run. He was MSU Director of Player Relations and Program Advancement from February 2020 to June 2023. Now he's been hired to be the Giants' Director of Player Engagement.
It looks like he just continues to advance in his career and he'll be missed in East Lansing. He was an integral piece of the program during the Tucker era and he then joined the athletic department in 2024. Now that Alan Haller is gone and changes are being made, Harris felt like it was time to move on.
It was a mostly successful tenure for Harris in East Lansing as he began his career as a linebacker during the winningest era of Michigan State football since the 1960s (2012-15). He helped lead Michigan State to the playoff and a Rose Bowl victory and then joined the staff under Tucker in 2020.
Harris engaged with fans on social media and listened to comments and critiques of the program, often offering some insight of his own.
East Lansing won't quite be the same without him.
