The 2025 NFL Draft is officially in the books and one Michigan State football player heard his name called last weekend while the rest had to wait to sign as undrafted free agents or earn minicamp invites.
Since the draft is over and it seems like everyone who was expected to sign or earn a minicamp invite has done just that or received one, I've decided to compile a list of every Spartan in each category to make it easier on everyone to track.
Here's who was drafted out of Michigan State this past weekend (hint: it's only one guy):
Draftee | Team | Round - Pick |
---|---|---|
Luke Newman, OL | Chicago Bears | Round 6 - No. 195 |
As you can see, that's not exactly what fans would've hoped to see in the first year under Smith. Ideally, the Spartans have three-plus picks every year and that was kind of the norm under Mark Dantonio for a decade. That hasn't quite been the case since 2020, especially since that lengthy NFL Draft streak was snapped in 2021.
Even if you're not drafted, however, you can catch on with an NFL team shortly after as an undrafted free agent and the Spartans had a few of those.
Here are the players who signed as undrafted free agents:
Player | Team |
---|---|
Jonathan Kim, K | Chicago Bears |
Nate Carter, RB | Atlanta Falcons |
Kay'ron Lynch-Adams, RB | Carolina Panthers |
If you didn't sign as an undrafted free agent, chances are you got a minicamp invite from at least one NFL team and a handful of Spartans received those. These aren't quite as good as undrafted free agent contracts, but it's a chance for these guys to prove themselves worthy of a deal.
Here are the Spartans who received minicamp invites:
Player | Team |
---|---|
Maverick Hansen, DL | Indianapolis Colts |
Lejond Cavazos, CB | Tampa Bay Buccaneers |
Khris Bogle, DE | New York Giants |
Tanner Miller, OL | Las Vegas Raiders |
Montorie Foster Jr., WR | Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns |
D'Quan Douse, DL | San Francisco 49ers |
Jordan Turner, LB | Denver Broncos |
In total, 11 Spartans were either drafted, signed as undrafted free agents, or received at least one NFL minicamp invite. That's not horrible, but it's time to get those numbers up.
