It’s been a minute since Michigan State was on College GameDay, but there was a Spartan featured on this week’s show.

Veteran safety Armorion Smith was the feature story on this week’s College GameDay episode, and while his life has been under a microscope a lot over the past year, it reached a wider audience on Saturday morning. ESPN did a fantastic feature on Smith that touched just about everyone who tuned in to College GameDay to watch.

Smith thanked ESPN after College GameDay posted the feature on X.

Smith lost his mother a year ago and was forced to take on a father role for his siblings after his mother passed away. He’s had to balance being a student, being an athlete, being a brother, and being a father figure. What he’s done as a college kid has been nothing short of amazing, and he deserves all the credit and recognition.

If you’ve ever been to college, you know just how overwhelming it can be. You have tests, homework, and a social life to balance. It’s not easy to get good grades and have a great social life. Smith doesn’t have to worry about just those three facets of college life, but he has to throw in the fact that he’s taken on a parental role with his siblings.

The Spartans are lucky to have a leader like this on the defensive side of the ball. He’s one of the best leaders a team can have, and while he already has a lot on his plate, he’s never wavered or complained.

Senior Day is going to be extra special this year with Smith.
