Week 4 featured some really good matchups and while some of us were stuck watching the clunker that was Michigan State vs Nebraska, there was an instant classic brewing in Ann Arbor and two other Big Ten teams went on the road to beat ranked conference opponents.
Michigan hosted Iowa in one of two ranked Big Ten games of the week and it looked like the Wolverines were going to hold on for a ranked win but Hank Brown and the Hawkeyes had other plans. They completed a touchdown pass with no time remaining to beat Michigan 20-19 and yo-yo the Wolverines back out of the AP Top 25 for the second time this season (at least that’s what it looks like).
The other Big Ten teams that went on the road to pick up ranked wins were Oregon, which went to No. 12 USC and pulled off the big win despite losing Dante Moore to a scary concussion, and Wisconsin. The Badgers marched into Happy Valley and shocked the No. 13 Nittany Lions.
As you could imagine, those games are going to directly affect this week’s rankings.
There was also a top-15 SEC matchup between Texas and Tennessee that the No. 1 Longhorns won despite a furious comeback from the Volunteers.
Other upsets included Florida dominating No. 4 Ole Miss and Wake Forest going into Louisville and leaving with a huge ranked win in the ACC. There’s going to be a ton of movement in this week’s AP Top 25, and the Big Ten is at the epicenter of it.
What will the college football AP Top 25 look like in Week 5?
We’re going to see a handful of teams drop out of the rankings this week and some newcomers. Spoiler for any Michigan State fans reading this: nope, still not ranked.
Without further ado, here’s what the Top 25 may look like on Sunday:

Despite Michigan dropping out (the combination of Oklahoma losing to Georgia by four touchdowns and an inconsistent first four games will cause this), we’re going to see UCLA and Washington jump into the rankings. There’s a chance that we also see Wisconsin, but that 28-point loss to Notre Dame to open the season may have left a sour taste in voters’ mouths.
Nebraska, too, could also leap into the rankings after handling the Spartans.
The 10-25 range of the AP Top 25 is going to look a lot different on Sunday afternoon.
