The second week of the season featured a couple more big games than Week 1 did, and there was even a massive top-10 upset that affected one Big Ten team, as well as another top-five battle that didn’t go Ohio State’s way on the road. The Week 3 college football Top 25 is going to look quite different on Sunday afternoon.
Spoiler: there will be no Michigan State again.
The Big Ten had a mixed bag on Saturday, but it was mostly bad, toppling one SEC contender while another roared back for a huge win. Michigan started the day by upsetting No. 11 Oklahoma after that controversial win over Western Michigan last weekend. It’s safe to say that no one really knows what to think of the Wolverines after two very different outcomes.
Ohio State lost the game of the week, choking away a 23-3 second-half lead at Texas to drop 24-23 to “upset” the No. 1 team in the nation. There will be a new No. 1 on Sunday.
Oregon, like Ohio State, had a forgettable weekend, losing to Oklahoma State in the biggest upset of Week 2. It seems like Dante Moore has taken a step back and if you look at who the assistant quarterbacks coach at Oregon is, it might start to make sense (it’s Jay Johnson).
How will the rankings look after a crazy week that ended with a huge come-from-behind win for Texas over Ohio State?
Predicting the Week 3 college football Top 25 rankings
We will have a new No. 1 team in the country on Sunday, but who will it be? My best guess is Texas.

One team unfortunately had to drop from the rankings to make room for Michigan and while that could very well be Utah, I just don’t see the Utes losing to Arkansas on Saturday night.
Virginia is the odd man out because they beat an FCS team just like Louisville right ahead of them in the rankings. They could also tie for 25th if they get the same votes — that has happened plenty of times. I also considered dropping Washington out after a disappointing 16-14 win at home over Utah State. Keep an eye on the Huskies in the Week 3 rankings.
Oregon is going to see a massive drop in the rankings after losing to Oklahoma State who they were heavy favorites over and Ohio State will drop from the No. 1 spot.
There were seven Big Ten teams in the AP Top 25 this week, and there’s a chance that there will be eight in Week 3, but Ohio State, Oregon, Washington, and maybe even Iowa are all trending in the wrong direction after a rough Week 2 showing.
