Breaking a backboard with a dunk is something that only Shaquille O'Neal has been known for and it made sense because he was a mountain of a man and the rim didn't stand a chance.
Coen Carr can now be added to the shortlist of players known for breaking rims.
On Thursday, Carr was taking part in an open gym, of some sort, and he leaked open on a fast break. His teammate passed him the ball as he was streaking to the basket and his dunk was one of the most vicious that I've ever seen, reminding me a lot of that Ole Miss dunk that changed the trajectory of that entire game.
Carr threw down so hard that the backboard immediately shattered and the rim nearly came off.

While Shaq was bringing backboards down because of his pure mass, Carr is dunking so hard that backboards don't stand a chance. He shattered the backboard immediately and turned a full-court scrimmage into likely a half-court 3-on-3 game in a hurry.
Honestly, the next Carr NIL deal should be Spalding so they can show that their backboards don't shatter even with the most ferocious dunkers like Coen.
Seeing videos like this give me hope that Carr is going to blossom into a do-everything player who Michigan State needs to become a star next season. The Spartans will need Carr to take on a much larger role with a good chunk of production moving on and if he can continue to develop his all-around game, he could be a legitimate Big Ten Player of the Year candidate.
Right now, he's got a future spot in the NBA Dunk Contest waiting for him.
