If there's one player currently on the Michigan State basketball roster who has barely scratched the surface of his potential and who could be a legitimate lottery pick with an improvement in one major area, it has to be Coen Carr.
The freak athlete from Georgia had a solid sophomore season with Michigan State which saw him put up career-highs in every category and he even hit a few 3-pointers along the way.
Carr averaged 8.1 points and 3.6 rebounds and he improved his free throw shooting percentage by nearly 15 points from a season ago and he shot 61 percent from the field on five attempts per game. Sure, more of those field goal attempts were dunks, but he still showed efficiency and an overall improved game from ball handling to shooting.
Carr went 5-for-15 from deep after attempting zero threes as a freshman.
Now, he's expected to take a huge leap in 2025-26 as one of the team's returning stars. He's the best athlete in college basketball but all he's missing is that consistent jumper.
A video of him playing in an open gym surfaced on Thursday and it showed that he has, in fact, been working on that jumper and while it's just pick-up hoops, it looks way better.
Carr obviously mixed in some highlight-reel dunks, but he was flashing that jump shot which he's been apparently working hard on because he looks as comfortable as ever taking it. If he can shoot this shot consistently and not second-guess himself every time he does, he's going to be scary.
Michigan State's offseason has been interesting so far with plenty of positive developments and this is just the latest.
