Jordan Scott has been a really good player for Michigan State this season, and he’s really turned things up a notch over the past month.

Scott was inserted into the starting lineup at the shooting guard position for Divine Ugochukwu right before the Minnesota game, and then the Miami transfer suffered a season-ending injury, ensuring that the freshman’s presence in that starting five was permanent.

Now, Scott is one of the top performers on the team and easily one of Michigan State’s most consistent players. He’s been everything the offense has needed over the past month.

How good as he been? He’s averaging 11.8 points since entering the lineup and he’s shooting 11-for-21 for three over his past five games. Scott is playing like one of the best freshmen in the conference and it wouldn’t surprise me if he flirting with the Big Ten All-Freshman team.

Everyone, including Tom Izzo, has been raving about Scott.

One popular Big Ten Network analyst made a bold prediction on Monday regarding Scott’s future, saying that the freshman from Virginia is going to “be a pro” one day.

This wouldn’t be the least bit surprising given the fact that Scott is gaining confidence on the offensive end but he’s also a lockdown defender. He held future NBA Lottery pick Keaton Wagler in check when the two teams met up a couple of weeks ago, showing that he can hang with some of the best players in college basketball.

The scary thing is that his offense is catching up to his defense. Scott is become one of the more well-rounded players on the roster and he’s only four months into his first season as a Spartan.

Jordan Scott is way ahead of schedule

Earlier this season after Cam Ward’s breakout game against Arkansas, fans just assumed that it would be him, not Scott, who would have a huge freshman season. Scott was looking solid, but no one could have expected him to become a starter midway through his freshman season.

Now, the roles have completely reversed and Ward looks like he’s developing a little slower because of a wrist injury and Scott is only getting better each game.

Scott went from the third or fourth option off the bench when the season began to the team’s starting shooting guard, playing 25-30 minutes per game regularly. He’s just been that good that Izzo can’t keep him on the bench for too long.

The future is bright for Scott who experts believe will be a future NBA player, and I concur.
