To say this season has been rough for Michigan State football coaches, players, and fans would probably be one of the biggest understatements of the past few years.

Michigan State has been experiencing a disaster almost every time it takes the field.

The Spartans began the season 3-0 with a huge overtime with over Boston College and, at the time, it felt like the program had turned the corner under Jonathan Smith. Since then, Boston College has regressed into one of the worst teams in the country and Michigan State has lost six straight games, including last week, controversially, at Minnesota in overtime.

Smith and Co. are on a much-needed bye this week, but not everything has been bad news for the Spartans. Alessio Milivojevic looks like a quality potential quarterback of the future, the defense looked plenty improved at Minnesota in the second half, and a young cornerback is standing out as a potential future star and leader of the secondary.

According to Cam Mellor of PFSN, Aydan West was one of the top-graded cornerbacks in the country in Week 10 — as a true freshman.

PFSN (lesser known than PFF) graded West as the fourth-best cornerback in the country last weekend, proving that he has the juice and he has the look of a future star in the secondary.

Michigan State has been playing West more and more each week, and his performance against Minnesota was the most extensive he’s had all season, and it was also the best he’s played since getting to East Lansing in the offseason. He looks like a star.

If we’re going to take anything positive from this nightmare of a season, it would have to be the fact that West is becoming the player that coaches had been hyping up all offseason.

Little victories.
