The gritty Spartans showed up on Saturday night at the Breslin Center. Michigan State took care of No. 14 Arkansas in one of the more thrilling early-season games thus far, 69-66.
Michigan State was tougher, smarter, and ultimately just much peskier than Arkansas, leading to the three-point win (which probably should’ve been more like 8-9). Arkansas’ young stars played well, but still shot under 50 percent from the floor, but one of its veterans, Trevon Brazile, seemed to be rattled almost from the get-go.
Brazile picked up two early fouls and played just eight first-half minutes. He picked up a quick one in the second half and saw his minutes disappear because of that foul trouble. Jeremy Fears Jr. seemed to get into his head a little bit, and fans apparently did, too, as Brazile whipped his towel out of frustration while heading to the locker room after hearing “airball” chants.
That, of course, was referring to his airball at the end of regulation on a 3-point attempt that would’ve tied the game. He was the subject of the heckling, and he seemed to whip his towel out of frustration, and it hit a fan in the face.

While I don’t think Brazile meant to whip an innocent bystander in the face with a towel, I do think he swung it out of frustration and didn’t really care where it landed. The fan laughed it off and kept the towel, but the internet jumped all over this and the reactions were obviously mixed.
They ranged from “the kid shouldn’t have been standing there” to “Brazile needs to be suspended” — and everything in between.
I don’t think a suspension is warranted, but maybe starting next game on the bench and seeing a minutes reduction for a few games would be a better punishment. Just a lame move.
