The 2025 season was a rough one for Michigan State football. The Spartans finished just 4-8 and fired head coach Jonathan Smith.

It marked the fourth straight season of the Spartans missing a bowl game.

The 2025 season was also not very kind to some former Spartans. Sam Leavitt suffered a season-ending injury, Charles Brantley didn’t see much of the field, and even some former Michigan State coaches found themselves on the hot seat.

While we don’t exactly know what Mel Tucker is doing, one of his former assistants is trying to make a name for himself at Alabama.

Unfortunately, it’s not going well.

Chris Kapilovic, Tucker’s former offensive line coach, didn’t live up to expectations in East Lansing and fans don’t exactly have fond memories of him, and now he’s having that same effect on Alabama fans.

Alabama fans are done with Chris Kapilovic

After a disappointing loss to Indiana on New Year’s Day, Alabama fans were ready to run Kapilovic right out of town after a horrendous offensive line performance — which has been the theme all season long.

Some have even called the offensive line Alabama’s worst in a quarter century.

Wild. It’s actually tough to go to Alabama, recruit elite offensive linemen because of the brand, and then piece together a line that can’t block anyone.

If this sounds familiar, it’s because he did the same thing at Michigan State. Granted, he wasn’t landing elite offensive linemen left and right, but he was coaching plenty of talented players. He was always touted as a top-tier offensive line coach, but we never saw that in East Lansing. Kapilovic’s position group was constantly the worst performing unit on the team.

Now it sounds like that’s exactly what’s happening at Alabama.

Kapilovic hasn’t been very popular with pretty much any fanbase he has encountered since being hired at Michigan State in 2020. Michigan State fans weren’t thrilled with him, then he was hired at Baylor where he spent about two months before leaving for the Alabama job. The Baylor fanbase is also not very fond of him because of that.

And now Alabama fans are ready to ship him out of Tuscaloosa.

It’s been a bumpy ride for Kapilovic since 2020.
