When Tom Izzo talks about culture, he means that former players are always welcome back like family and they're always welcome around the program.
Yes, that even includes guys who transfer from Michigan State.
One of those transfers from the program was AJ Hoggard and he eventually landed on his feet at Vanderbilt where he helped lead the Commodores to the NCAA Tournament in year one of a new coaching staff there. He left the program last offseason, but he has spoke highly of Izzo and the Spartans ever since.
So when he showed up to Friday's Sweet 16 game between Ole Miss and Michigan State, no one should've been surprised. And he brought a guest with him: Tyson Walker.

Walker and Hoggard played a few years together in East Lansing and while they didn't quite accomplish what they set out to, they still managed to make a Sweet 16 back in 2023 and probably should've made the Elite Eight, but we won't re-live that crushing loss.
It's cool to see the two former Michigan State guards show up together to support their former teammates because they know the blood, sweat, and tears that have poured into this roster.
Many have talked about Hoggard and Tom Izzo not having the best relationship but both parties have shot that rumor down and this is a good sign that it was all talk. Hoggard showing up to support Michigan State in a neutral-site game where travel was necessary is a good sign that Izzo and him still have a good relationship and nothing was left on bad terms.
Walker being there was just a bonus as he'll always be a fan favorite.
For vibes sake, hopefully both are there again on Sunday.
