There hasn’t been many surprising losses to the transfer portal this offseason for Pat Fitzgerald and Michigan State, but there have been a couple of bittersweet departures.

Fans kind of expected to lose some key offensive players like Nick Marsh, Aidan Chiles, and Makhi Frazier, but they’re all likely to land on their feet. Marsh is going to have a ton of potential suitors, Chiles will likely be pursued by some Power Four programs in need of a starting quarterback, and Frazier was the leading rusher for Michigan State this year so there’s a good chance he’ll also land at a quality program.

There have been a few schools rumored to be in the running for Marsh like Indiana and Notre Dame, but I’m sure we’re going to hear about more before he finally picks a school.

As for Chiles, he’s been rumored to be one of the top quarterbacks on the market (No. 8, according to On3). He is one of three former Spartans in On3’s top 10 transfer quarterback rankings, and he’s recently been tied to a Big Ten program as a potential destination, according to On3.

After connecting some dots after On3 posted the story about Chiles and a Big Ten and a Big 12 program showing interest, it sounds like Nebraska may be the program mentioned — given by how many Nebraska fans had strong takes about Chiles.

Like this one, for example:

Other fans were a little more positive about the idea of Chiles in the Husker red, but several Nebraska fans were sharing some strong opinions.

Aidan Chiles would be a good fit at Nebraska

While Chiles never quite lived up to his expectations in East Lansing, he still showed plenty of promise and looked like a future star on several occasions. Plus, I don’t think he ever really got the coaching he deserved at Michigan State. It felt like the staff really held him back.

At Nebraska, Matt Rhule would have fun working with him for a year and squeezing all that potential out of him after Dylan Raiola’s transfer.

Nebraska needs a quarterback and Chiles could be an effective dual-threat which is something that’s been desired for years. When Raiola hit the portal, Rhule had to make a move quickly to make sure he had a backup option in the portal.

Chiles could be just that. And I think he’d find success in Lincoln under Rhule.
