While we’re just a month into the season, Nebraska has one of the best pass defenses in the country. The Cornhuskers actually rank No. 1 in passing yards allowed at just under 80, and they’re the only team in college football that’s allowing under 100 per game.
That creates a tough situation for Aidan Chiles.
Of course, you have to look at the teams that Nebraska has played to this point, and it’s not all that shocking that Akron and Houston Christian didn’t put up many yards through the air. Bryce Underwood of Michigan finished with just over 100 yards in a road win, but Chiles is the best quarterback that the Cornhuskers have seen all year.
Chiles also has a chance to do something that no other quarterback has done against the Cornhuskers this season: throw a touchdown pass.
That’s right, through four games, the Cornhuskers haven’t allowed a single touchdown pass. Impressive, to say the least.
Nebraska is the only Big Ten team not to allow a touchdown pass so far this year.

Plus, they are the only FBS team to allow less than 100 yards per game passing and less than 4 yards per pass attempt on the season.

The Cornhuskers are the only team in the Big Ten to not have allowed a single touchdown pass through the first five weeks of the season, and they’re looking to continue that aerial dominance against Chiles and the Spartans.
Here’s what the Nebraska defense has allowed from each opposing starter this season:
- Brendan Sorsby, Cincinnati: 13-for-25 for 69 yards and an INT
- Ben Finley, Akron: 7-for-21 for 54 yards
- Jake Weir, Houston Baptist: 11-for-18 for 67 yards
- Bryce Underwood, Michigan: 12-for-22 for 105 yards
It’s going to be difficult to overcome this sort of dominance, but Chiles has the talent and the weapons to get the job done and to throw the first touchdown pass of the year against Nebraska.
