For the third time in the past month, Michigan State basketball went on the road in Big Ten play and picked up a convincing win. In each of the Spartans' road games, they have led by 15-plus points and Sunday was no exception as they led by as much as 22 against Northwestern.
Michigan State would go on to win 78-68.
The Spartans were up comfortably in the second half before letting Northwestern gain some ground in the closing minutes, even pulling within eight with under a minute left. Fortunately, the Spartans would hold on thanks to some solid defense and great shot selection.
Let's dive into some takeaways from this huge road win.
1. Jase Richardson is special
In case we didn't already know, Jase Richardson is special.
OK, so everyone already knew this but it's nice to get reminders every time out. After a solid showing against Washington in which he scored 12 points with five steals, Richardson looked like a star against Northwestern, scoring 13 points with two rebounds and an assist on 4-of-8 shooting.
You know you're special when you shoot 50 percent from the floor and your field goal percentage on the season drops slightly. That just shows how good Richardson has been this year.
No one expected Richardson to be this good early on, but he's a key piece to the Spartans' championship puzzle this season.
