Michigan State basketball was out-played on Friday night, leading to an 83-71 home loss, so obviously fans took it well and didn’t completely overreact on social media.

I’m clearly being facetious, so let’s take a look at the biggest overreactions from Michigan State’s disappointing loss to the Wolverines.

(There were a lot of overreactions)

1. Jeremy Fears is just a foul-baiter

Or, or — just hear me out — he’s a smart basketball player. I’ve seen a lot of Michigan fans take to social media to complain about Jeremy Fears and the way he plays the game. I’ve seen way too much Fears bashing lately, and it’s incredible that there can be so much hate for a guy who’s averaging over 25 points and 11 assists over the last three games,

Yes, Fears foul-baits, and that’s on the opponent to avoid getting into those situations — like Aday Mara trailing him too close and Fears stopping and drawing an easy foul.

Fears is a great basketball player, so let’s cool it with the “Fears is bad” talk, Michigan fans. He did drop 31 points and seven assists after all.

2. Michigan State doesn’t have the shooters

Another prisoner of the moment take, I saw even Michigan State fans saying this. They were claiming after one of the worst shooting performances of the season that the Spartans just don’t have the shooting to really compete for a Big Ten title.

Hey, poor shooting games happen. It’s not like the Spartans haven’t been drastically improved shooting-wise over the past few months because they have. They shoot better than Michigan from three, so where’s the criticism for the Wolverines?

Kur Teng, Divine Ugochukwu, Jordan Scott, Jaxon Kohler, Jesse McCulloch, Trey Fort, and Jeremy Fears can all make shots from anywhere on the floor, and Coen Carr has even gotten exponentially better.

3. Michigan State can’t win it all

Admittedly, I only saw this take one time and it was from Jeff Goodman who was sporting a Michigan hat in the podcast that he said it on, but I did see it nonetheless.

Goodman said Michigan has the pieces to win a national title and Michigan State doesn’t. I strongly disagree with that statement. The Spartans played poorly and had one of their worst games of the season and we saw what happened. If they play like they did in the first 13 minutes of the second half for entire games, they would be undefeated right now.

If that type of play returns, there won’t be many teams that can beat the Spartans.
