One of my favorite weekly update articles happens to be the stock watch, and since Michigan State football exceeded some of my expectations in the opener, this will be a fun one.
Usually, we do stock up and stock down posts, but I'm going with just the former this week.
The Spartans had a great showing defensively against the Broncos of Western Michigan, and these are the three guys whose stock is rising the quickest?
1. Makhi Frazier, RB
How can anyone's stock be rising faster than Makhi Frazier? The first-year starting running back rushed for 100 yards in his first-ever start. That's the epitome of a stock-riser.
Frazier showed some great patience on Saturday, and he was explosive, rushing for 103 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. It felt like the good old days of the ground-and-pound. Frazier and Brandon Tullis are going to be a fun duo to watch this season.
2. Omari Kelly, WR
Omari Kelly led all receivers on Friday with seven receptions and he turned it into 75 yards. He caught everything thrown his way, and he looked like one of the best weapons on the field for Aidan Chiles. He actually outshined Nick Marsh, which I didn't think was possible.
With Chiles admitting he has a great veteran weapon in Kelly, and saying that he took the pressure off him to make plays, it's clear that the two have a great rapport.
If you haven't already, buy stock now.
3. Caleb Gash, DB
This is kind of an 'I think I'm the smartest guy in the room' pick, but Caleb Gash was a superstar on special teams, making two massive hits on first-half kickoffs, setting the tone for the game. The defense fed off the energy of him making those monster hits on kickoffs -- they responded by giving up zero points.
If you're looking for a special teams star to latch onto, Gash is your guy.
We'll see his brothers becoming stars in East Lansing soon enough.
