Michigan State football is looking to end its two-game losing streak against a suddenly-hot Wisconsin team that’s coming off a huge road win against No. 13 Penn State.
It’s not going to be easy, especially after a hapless effort against Nebraska, but Pat Fitzgerald is going to have his guys ready. Michigan State will come out firing on Saturday afternoon (at least we hope) and the game is going to be closer than people expect.
Let’s get bold ahead of a big Week 5 battle.
1. Michigan State records 3-plus sacks
Michigan State’s defensive line has been right there for a few weeks and it’s because Ben Roberts, Eli Coenen, and Kenny Soares Jr. have all been playing at a high level. The three of them have been putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks and filling run lanes, but it’s about time all that hard wortk pays off in the form of sacks and tackles for loss.
Roberts, Coenen, and Soares Jr. are each going to record a sack (or 0.5 sacks) each while the defensive line wreaks havoc the entire game on Wisconsin’s offensive line.
The Badgers aren’t going to just roll over, but Michigan State’s defensive line has some momentum.
2. Alessio Milivojevic throws for 200 yards, 2 TDs
After what can be considered his worst game of the year at Wisconsin, Alessio Milivojevic returned home to take on Nebraska and he struggled again. He got off to a really slow start before figuring it out and playing decent in the final 2.5 quarters, but it wasn’t enough to engineer a comeback and the offense still only accounted for 13 points. He hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass since Week 2 against Eastern Michigan.
Milivojevic will nearly double his touchdown passes on the season against the No. 21 passing defense in college football. He’ll also throw for over 200 yards against a team that allows just 169 per game on the season.
3. Michigan State has a chance to win in the 4th
Fitzgerald is going to have his guys ready after two letdown games and he’s not going to just let a third straight loss happen without a fight.
Michigan State is going to hold a lead in the second half and be within a score in the fourth quarter with a chance to tie or take the lead on its final drive. Unfortunately, the offense will stumble with a few bad plays in a row and a negative play (a sack) will lead to a third and fourth-and-long that Milivojevic and the Spartans just won’t be able to convert.
Michigan State will fall short 28-24 and drop to 2-3.
