Michigan State football hosted Aidan Chiles this past weekend. It was his first visit since declaring his intentions to leave Oregon State. A photo online surfaced of Chiles standing with the mother of prized MSU wide receiver pledge Nick Marsh shortly after the airplane of Chiles landed in Michigan.

Certainly the visions of Chiles throwing touchdown passes to Marsh generates a great deal of excitement to the Spartan fanbase.

After Michigan State lost three quarterbacks to the NCAA transfer portal in recent weeks — Katin Houser, Sam Leavitt, and Noah Kim — the recruitment of Chiles is of the utmost importance. He has, without question, become the top target in East Lansing for the new regime.

Head coach Johnathan Smith is putting all of his eggs into this basket, which demonstrates to Chiles that he is the No. 1 priority. It also could work against the Spartans as with each passing day, other signal-callers on their radar will be coming off the board as these “college free agents” race to claim QB1 roles at universities across the nation.

With many members of Smith’s coaching staff shifting over from Corvallis to East Lansing (including the offensive coordinator), Chiles would possess an immediate advantage (and a clear path to earn the starting quarterback spot) having played in the offense for a full season. He is well aware of the terminology, route trees, audibles, packages, and formations. He also can trust Smith as this was the leader who not only recruiting him in high school but also the man who had enough confidence in him to put Chiles on the field as a true freshman during certain drives despite Oregon State having D.J. Uiagalelei, a much more seasoned Power Five signal-caller, in place as their starter.

Chiles is extremely talented. He has great size as well at 6-foot-3, north of 200 pounds, with blazing speed and a rocket for an arm. He completed over 68 percent of his passes during the 2023 season, threw for 309 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for two additional scores. He would bring an incredible dual-threat ability to the fold. He’s a player that the Michigan State football program is in a good position for.

They’re playing the waiting game now in hopes of him committing in the days to come.
