Hours after Katin Houser announced that he would be entering the transfer portal, another promising young Michigan State football player announced his intention to transfer.

Sam Leavitt has announced his intention to enter the portal as well.

That now leaves Noah Kim as the only scholarship quarterback still on the team. He, too, could opt to transfer after all of this and then the only quarterbacks on the roster would be walk-ons and eventually freshman Henry Hasselbeck.

This is probably the most crushing news of the day because he was considered to be the future of the program. Many fans were expecting him to push Houser for the starting job next fall.

The only way this will be an easy loss to take is if Jonathan Smith is able to bring Aidan Chiles with him from Oregon State. He was a top-100 quarterback in the 2023 class and Smith decided to prioritize recruiting Chiles over Leavitt.

Which rubbed Leavitt the wrong way.

Sam Leavitt explained why he’s leaving Michigan State football

Leavitt spoke to David Harns of Spartans Illustrated on Monday and explained why he would be leaving Michigan State.

He attributed the decision to “hard feelings” between him and Smith, stating that it rubbed him the wrong way that the Spartans’ new head coach never recruited him at Oregon State despite Sam being a hometown kid.

Leavitt also stated that he’s probably not going to be open to the idea of returning.

This one hurts, folks.

Next. Jonathan Smith's staff is coming together nicely. dark
