2. Tre Holloman could be the offensive spark that this team needed
“We might not have any shooters not named Tyson Walker.”
That was the sentiment floating around the fanbase over the past couple of weeks as the offense struggled to shoot from distance against James Madison and Southern Indiana to start the year. In fact, the Spartans shot a paltry 2-for-31 from deep to start the year and it wasn’t for a lack of good looks. No, all the looks were fairly open, but Michigan State couldn’t hit anything.
The Spartans shot better against Duke (not by much) and then even better (7-for-20) from deep against Butler in arguably their best shooting game of the season.
And then on Sunday night, the Spartans hit their stride, hitting 10-for-25 from three thanks to Tre Holloman’s 5-for-5 shooting night from distance. He finished with 17 points in his first career start, replacing Walker in the starting lineup. He’s now 7-for-13 from deep on the year.
Sunday night’s performance from Holloman showed that we might just have a secret weapon coming off the bench who could provide an offensive spark moving forward.
Another shooter? Yes, please.
