I am back. Here is the deal, if you are like me, then you are drunk on the Urban Meyer train to Michigan State football.

The problem is, I suspect both Urban and MSU do not want each other.

Then it comes to the question of ‘if not Urban, then who?’

Think about it. Who? Maybe an upcoming coach. Or a retread or a guy like a Chip Kelly. This is not who I want. I want to make that very clear. However, who do I think MSU will hire? It will be Toledo head coach Jason Candle. Why? Former head coach Mark Dantoino is involved in this and this is what Michigan State is trying to replicate.

Candle is in his 40s and has had success. It’s not the sexy play but it is the safe play. Unfortunately, that is where Michigan State is at. Could he win at MSU? Yes.

The problem is that this is a program that wants to win and win at a big level. This is what the fanbase wants but they are also willing to settle.

Could Candle be good? Absolutely. I think he would build slowly and do a good job. Is that the type of thing in a win-now atmosphere? If I had to settle with Candle then I’d be content because there are worse options. Is he a first choice? Not sure. However this could be a reemerge of a new era of MSU where the stars don’t matter.

It’s the coaching and missed recruits that could make or break a program. Candle, in my opinion, could be Dantonio 2.0. This is why MSU is looking at him.
