We are heading into yet another (painful) weekend of Michigan State football. The positive takeaway heading into the weekend is that we only have four more weeks to suffer through football season before we hire a new head coach to bring the program back from the brink.

There are plenty of interesting candidates to consider and I’ve been power ranking them all week-to-week.

Here is how my top five shakes out ahead of Week 10.

Honorable mention: Charles Huff, Brian Hartline

Chris Klieman is the only coach to openly come out and say that he wasn’t considering any other jobs at the moment, but that can obviously change when the checkbook comes out.

When Kansas State was 3-2 on the season with losses to unranked (at the time) Missouri and Oklahoma State, I was all ready to write him off as a candidate. But he’s since stormed back to win three straight against teams like Texas Tech on the road, TCU, and Houston. In fact, he has out-scored TCU and Houston over the past two weeks, 82-3. Not bad.

Kansas State’s three-game winning streak has been enough to get the Wildcats back into the rankings at No. 23 and they’re tied for first place in the Big 12 at 4-1.

Klieman has a tough test this week at Texas and if he can win that, he’s going to vault in these power rankings.
