Another week of college football is in the books, and that means it’s time for some power rankings. No, these aren’t the power rankings you’re used to reading after an action-packed weekend. These are head coaching candidate power rankings for Michigan State football.

Last week, I released my first edition of the power rankings, headlined by some of the common names being thrown around. This week, we have a new name making the cut.

Let’s dive into the post-Week 5 head coaching candidate power rankings.

Just missed the cut: Brian Hartline, Lance Leipold, Alex Atkins, Chris Klieman

Jumping onto the list in place of Brian Hartline is fellow offensive coordinator Sean Lewis from Colorado. The former Kent State head coach who brought some solid success to that usually-dormant program decided to join Deion Sanders’ staff this season, downgrading his role. And it looks like that may have been the best move for his career.

Lewis has not only shown that he can draw up a really good offensive game plan, but he can also coach to his players’ strengths. He’s revived an offense that was dead last year.

In Week 5, the Buffaloes were without Travis Hunter yet again and all Lewis did was lead the Buffaloes to 41 points against the No. 8 team in the country. They nearly came back after being down by three scores and it was because he called a great game.

Shedeur Sanders looked like a Heisman candidate again and he had a game plan in place that made USC’s defense look silly.

A young, elite offensive mind with previous head coaching experience? Yes, please.
